OXFORDSHIRE has been revealed as a second home rental hotspot for people wanting a weekend bolthole or a place near the office.
The Hamptons International Lettings Index found that 13,680 properties were rented as second homes across Britain last year - the highest number since records began in 2007.
The study said that Oxfordshire was one of the hotspots - with people renting properties in the county either to be closer to work or to have a 'bolthole' for weekend getaways.
Estate agent Hamptons suggested a stamp duty hike for people buying second homes was behind the decision by many to rent rather than buy.
Windsor, Gloucester, Edinburgh, Kensington and Chelsea were also named.
