A COMMUNITY scheme to reopen a former children's centre grew support at Florence Park over the weekend by planting a hundred sunflowers.

Families could paint a pot, plant a sunflower and take it home to nurture it, with the idea they will bring it back in full bloom when the Rymers Lane hub opens later in the summer.

The project to revamp the East Oxford centre has raised more than £20k in just one month, with a share scheme allowing residents to personally invest in the project.

Shares start from £250, with those living in postcode OX4 able to have a stake in the project for £100.

Support has poured in for Flo’s, which will offer many of the services once provided at the children's centre and includes a new café, a nursery, a community drop-in space and meeting rooms.

Shares went on sale on April 16 and will be available until June 18.
