DOG owners are being invited to sign up their pets for a show at this year's Oxford Canal Festival.

The dog show is set to be one of the top attractions at the festival, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday, September 8 and 9, at Aristotle Lane Recreation Ground near Port Meadow.

As well as the canine carnival there will be live music, storytelling, talks, walks and an evening concert on the Sunday, all with a canalside theme.

Festival spokeswoman Cathy Nightingale said: “The previous festival’s dog show was hugely popular with dog lovers of all ages, so anyone who wants to enter their dog for the chance of a winning a special rosette is advised to enter in good time.

“Dogs are part of towpath life and now they have the chance to take centre stage.

“No experience is necessary – the judges are on the lookout for personality as well as looks and obedience.”

The festival aims to raise awareness of the history of the Oxford Canal.

It will also be raising money to buy and restore a special narrowboat for everyone to enjoy.

The festival is supported by Oxford University, the city and county councils and Inland Waterways Association.
