BOTLEY has been branded a ‘dystopia’ in the latest graffiti attack on a beleaguered shopping centre.
Boarded up shops in the West Way centre have been covered in bright pink writing bemoaning the state of the area, which is awaiting redevelopment.
The vandalism, which has previously been claimed by a person operating unter the pseudonym Waldo Skipsey, comes after preparatory work began on the long-delayed project to bulldoze existing buildings and build new shops, a hotel and student accommodation.
Residents have been left unhappy by the felling of mature trees on the site and one piece of new graffiti claims these trees ‘were protected.’
Other slogans proclaim ‘we are not zombies’ and that the artist ‘loves Botley’.
Work is continuing ahead of shops including Tesco and the Co-op moving in to temporary new homes in nearby buildings to make way for major works to begin in June 2018.
