Two burglars were left empty handed after a failed attempt to break in to a Co-op store in Banbury.

Two people tried to break into Co-op in Chatsworth Drive at 3am yesterday.

They tried to force open the shutters but weren't able to and quickly fled the scene.

Police said they were seen fleeing across the crossing outside The Cock Horse pub and into the area of the children’s park between Melbourne Close and Longleat Close.

One is described as being of slim build and they were both wearing dark clothing.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable, Grahame Lea said: “I would like to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything in the vicinity of Chatsworth Drive in the early hours of the morning yesterday.

“I would especially like to hear from any residents who can recall seeing any individuals or vehicles in the area around the time of the offence.

“It is highly likely the offenders used a vehicle to flee the scene. The vehicle may well have been parked in any of the nearby residential roads."
