A GREAT-GRANDMOTHER proved to be Oxford United’s lucky charm after her attendance at Saturday’s match broke a five game winless run.

Bett Brackley watched on proudly as her beloved U’s beat Peterborough United 2-1 on her 95th birthday.

In what is likely to be her last ever live game, Mrs Brackley was joined by friends and family to cap off decades of support stretching back to the days the team were known as Headington United.

She remembers seeing the greats such as Ron Atkinson and John Shuker and went to the 1986 Milk Cup final.

Daughter Marilyn Oakey, who bought her mother a day out in a box as a special gift, said: “It was really brilliant and they won which was a double plus.

“We all had a great day out and she had an absolutely lovely time.

“Everyone was saying how she has to come back again because she clearly brought the team a little luck.

“They did us proud and the whole club really looked after us.”
