WORK is continuing on the £440m Westgate Centre as the long-awaited cycle hub nears completion.

Bike racks in the secure hub, which was a condition of the original planning permission, are ready to be used as Westgate Oxford advertise the spaces.

According to its website cyclists can 'register an interest' in renting one of 186 spaces available - it is not clear how many racks will be in the hub but the plans stated 1,022.

Campaigners hit out when the centre opened in October with just 142 cycle spaces and have been calling for the hub to be opened, as promised, ever since.

Elsewhere around the centre, work to replace pavement outside The Cow and Creek pub and Art Cafe has been paused for the weekend near the Bonn Square entrance.

In Old Greyfriars Street - where the cycle hub has been set up - work on a new public art display is also nearing completion.

The road will also have a taxi rank with a turning circle at the end.
