AN Oxford art group will host a seasonal exhibition of artworks exploring what reflections mean to us, from reflections in water, in a mirror to places.

Oxford Bury Knowle Art Group will hold its winter exhibition, titled ‘Reflections’, at Wolfson College, Linton Road, Oxford.

Artist and group member Jean Wykes said that all were welcome to come and enjoy the artworks and said that this year’s theme was particularly relevant for the modern age.

Explaining the concept behind the exhibition, she said: “Reflecting implies time spent thinking about something, perhaps an event, a person, a relationship, on what has gone before.

“Reflecting also implies evaluating what is important, what is relevant to our present needs rather than catering to short term gratification of wants.

“We need to reflect on today’s problems and find solutions to make way for the needs of the 21st century, perhaps in the case of Didcot, a modern housing estate.

“In our busy lives we all need to take time to reflect and evaluate what is important.”

The exhibition will be held between Sunday and March 9 and is open each day from 10am to 7pm.

A special preview event will be held on Sunday between 3pm and 6pm to which all are welcome.

Talking of some of the individual works, Ms Wykes added: “The panoramic views across the River Cherwell and water meadows provide a suitable watery background to one aspect of the exhibition, reflections in streams, rivers, lakes, oceans and even a Hockney style swimming pool.

“‘Winters’ Spring’, ‘Sunset on the Stour’, ‘Blenhem Lake’, ‘Northern Lights’, ‘A Space to ponder and reflect’, ‘Aquatint’ to name a few, reflect this theme.

“Of course there are other aspects of Reflections; those in a mirror, like ‘Apples and Pears’ and ‘Looking back’, or places like ‘A Corner of my Studio’, ‘Cyprus’ or ‘Just Imagine’.

“Another aspect of reflection is of serious thought or consideration, about the past and evaluating what is important for the future.”

The exhibition is free to attend.
