TWO men accused of stealing £2,000 worth of wrapped presents from an Oxford home on Christmas Eve have appeared at court.

Daniel Webb, 34, of no fixed abode, and Matthew Webb, 36, of no fixed abode, each appeared via videolink at Oxford Crown Court today.

They are both charged with a single count of burglary following the break-in at the Jericho house on December 24 last year.

The pair are alleged to have broken into the property in Walton Street between 1.30am and 7am.

Police said at the time that the alleged burglars gained access to the house before finding a stash of wrapped Christmas presents in an unoccupied bedroom.

Officers investigating the incident said that the men would have been carrying five large bin bags around the area to transport the goods following the burglary.

At the crown court today, the two men spoke only to confirm their names as their case was discussed at a pre-trial hearing.

Judge Ian Pringle QC accepted an application from the defence team made up of Lucy Tapper, representing Matthew Webb, and Rebecca Austin, representing Daniel Webb, to delay their pleas.

The judge ordered the hearing to be adjourned in order to give the defendants a chance to review CCTV footage taken of the incident, before deciding on whether or not they would face a trial.

The men will both appear at the same court to enter their pleas on February 20.
