The return of temporary traffic lights outside the Westgate Centre is set to cause delays around Oxford until the middle of next week.
The lights, which regularly caused traffic chaos in the run up the centre's opening, made a comeback yesterday as Southern Electric began work in Thames Street.
Congestion was backed up along Abingdon Road and other parts of the city this morning as commuters once again battled against delays.
According to the Oxfordshire County Council website the work is expected to last until Wednesday January 24.
It said Southern Electric was fixing a low voltage mains fault.
