ATHLETES in Oxfordshire are being offered the chance to apply for funding to help them reach their full potential.

The GLL Sport Foundation, a charitable organisation set up in 2008, provides athletes across the UK with help to aid their sports performance.

Support includes training, membership access to over three hundred venues across the UK, access to physio and injury rehab support and financial awards up to the value of £1,250.

The foundation is anticipated to support 3,000 athletes in 2018.

It is also linked to the national governing body of Sport Talent Pathways, and has national partnerships with SportsAid and the Mary Peters Trust to ensure that the right awards are provided to the right athletes at the right time.

The idea is to make the most impact to athletes that are transitioning from national to international level and 74 per cent of athletes who receive support are aged under 21.

Since the foundation was launched it has been under the patronage of former track and field Olympic medallist Sally Gunnell.

She said with central sports funding being 'squeezed' she expected the role of the foundation to become even more important going forward.

Applications for athletes are open until February 20 via gllsportfoundation.org
