OXFORD City are setting their sights on pulling off another Emirates FA Cup shock after being handed an attractive tie at Notts County.

The Vanarama National League South side reached the second round of the famous competition for the first time since 1969-70 when they stunned hosts Colchester United 1-0 on Saturday.

And City’s reward is another Sky Bet League Two side in County, who lead the way after an impressive start to the season, on the first weekend in December.

Captain Lee Henderson said: “They’re top of their league, but I don’t see why we can’t go there and cause another upset.

“It’s a good ground and if we play like we did last Saturday we’ll do well.”

More than 50 people, including players, board members, coaching staff and fans, gathered in the clubhouse at Marsh Lane to watch last night’s draw.

After the suspense of waiting for their number – 20 – the room was filled with euphoria as they were handed a trip to Meadow Lane.

Director of football Justin Merritt said: “It will be a great experience. We’ll go there and enjoy it, but it will be a tough ask.

“Notts County are going really well and it will be a real challenge to see if we can get in to the draw for round three.

“Sometimes being the underdog brings out strange things and we saw it on Saturday.

“To do it again is going to be tough. I’m sure Notts County will prepare themselves properly for it.

“But we’ve got no fear and nothing to lose, we’ll give it a good go.

“The longer it goes without them scoring, the nerves start to come into play.

“That’s what we created on Saturday and hopefully we can go and do the same again.”

City, who have progressed from the second qualifying round, have earned £42,500 in the Cup so far, with a further £27,000 on offer against County.

Chairman Brian Cox punched the air with delight when he saw the draw.

He said: “I’m very pleased.

“If we could have picked a team we would be away to, that would have been one of them.

“It’s great for the players to test themselves.”

In the meantime, City’s task is to improve results in the league, where they sit second bottom.

Boss Mark Jones said: “It’s a good incentive for the players to make sure we perform well in the league in the next few weeks.

“I’m sure they will all want to get in the side when we play Notts County.”
