A WAR of words has broken out on whether an MEP representing Oxfordshire should be sacked for saying Brexit is moving too slowly.
Brexit Secretary David Davis wrote to Lib Dem leader Vince Cable after the European Parliament overwhelmingly supported a motion which said 'sufficient progress has not yet been made' on the split.
The Lib Dems' one MEP Catherine Bearder, who lives in Oxford, supported the motion.
Two of the Conservatives' MEPs had the whip stripped from them for voting the same way – and Mr Davis urged Dr Cable to follow suit.
But Dr Cable said the suggestion was 'extraordinary' and 'alarming'.
The letter, which was posted on Twitter yesterday, finished: “I trust that you will no longer find it necessary to make these absurd demands.”
