BUSINESSES were flipping on kettles all over Oxfordshire yesterday as they celebrated the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Dozens of companies and organisations raised money for Macmillan by hosting tea parties and cake sales as part of the annual fundraiser.

Oxford and District Indoor Bowls Association, in Sandy Lane West, Littlemore, participated for the second successive year.

The club hosted a tea party attended by club members and neighbouring school, St John Fisher Catholic Primary School, and raised more than £300.

Club Secretary Paula Fontaine was delighted with the fundraiser and said she hoped to keep raising the bar in years to come.

She said: “It was very successful. We had the local school down. They were wearing hats and we played cake bingo.

“Somebody donated a 1920s tea set so we had that set up. It was bigger than last year and we hope it gets even more support in the future.”

Sporting rivalries were also put on hold in the spirit of charity with local rivals Northants bowls club attending.

Miss Fontaine added: “MacMillan have looked after a couple of my family members in the past and they’re really fantastic.

“As soon as I mentioned to anyone what we were doing and who it was, they couldn’t wait to help out. It’s a really worthy cause.

“Even people who couldn’t come or couldn’t stay donated money.”

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event.

Last year the charity raised £29.5m through the fundraiser.
