ONE of the world's most exclusive private members clubs has said it is still going ahead with plans to open a motel at a petrol station near Oxford – despite no action for nearly a year.

Soho House told the Oxford Mail it remains committed to its scheme at Buckland Services on the A420 near Faringdon, even though it has not made any start on construction.

The Soho House Group, which hosts parties for the likes of Rupert Murdoch, Kate Moss and David Cameron, won planning permission for its latest venture in January.

The company, founded by Nick Jones as a single London club, now runs the Soho Farmhouse holiday camp in Great Tew near Chipping Norton.

At Buckland, the group won permission to build a 79-room motor hotel with a 132-seater American-style diner and drive-through.

The plan is actually reboot of the American diner and motel Chariots and Cherry Pie which was run on that site by Oxfordshire couple Jonathan and Claire Hilsdon briefly in 2014 before the business collapsed.

In the planning application, Soho's agent Paul Butt, who lives in March, said the development would result in 'additional roadside services – in particular the motel and diner – being provided on a site that is allocated for such purposes', perhaps indicating they would be open to the public.

Neighbours raised concerns about the increased traffic movements onto and off the already-busy A420.
