NEW parking machines in Abingdon will not issue visitor tickets, and residents will have to use a ‘scratch-card’ system instead.
Obsolete pay and display machines in the town will be replaced by new machines that will accept the new £1 coin and card payments.
But unlike the current machines they won’t be able to issue visitor permits for guests of residents in the area.
As a result the town will revert to the ‘scratch-card’ system that has been used in Oxford for many years.
Residents in specific parts of the town will get a maximum of 50 days’ worth of visitors permits per year.
Others will receive their first 25 for free but be charged £20 for the second 25.
