A DIDCOT teacher has been selected to represent England at the Taekwondo World Championships but needs to raise £2,000 in order to make it to the competition in North Korea.
Kirsty Miller, a 26-year old teacher from Didcot, has been chosen to compete for the country at the forthcoming ITF Taekwondo-Do World Championships.
As the sport is not nationally funded she needs to raise £2,000 to get to the competition and has since launched a crowdfunding campaign on JustGiving.
Kirsty has previously earned a silver medal in the individual event and three bronze medals in the team events at the European Championships held in Liverpool.
She said: "I am hopeful that this Championship will be my best yet as ever and aim to build on my recent success at the European Championships.
"Also, this championship is being held in The Taekwon-Do Palace in Pyongyang, and it has always been my dream to compete there.
“I am a little apprehensive about visiting DPRK due to the recent media coverage, but mainly I am really excited to have the opportunity to visit and experience life there.”
As well as the rest of the ladies team and coach, Kirsty is attending the competition in North Korea alongside her dad and instructor Senior Master Gary Miller.
They plan to fly out for the competition on September 12.
Her JustGiving fundraising page had raised just over £500 as at yesterday.
