COLOUR-CHANGING drinks and light boxes helped youngsters explore the science of colour at a hands on workshop.

After investigating how colours mix, looking at both light and paint, the children experimented and created their own beautifully bright art to take home.

The event, held at Oxford Town Hall yesterday, was for children aged from four to nine.

Jude Eades from Science Oxford, who organised the event, said: “From glittering salt painting to colourful chromatography, Science Oxford’s Colour Lab workshop certainly caused a rainbow splash.

“The group of young artists go to play with light boxes and coloured plastic paddles to learn what happens when colours mix; they created swirling watercolours with wax to learn about wax resistance and drank amazing colour-changing drinks using butterfly pea tea.”

Now that youngsters have discovered the science of colour, the next workshop will take mini-meteorologists on a journey through the science of rain, clouds and snow.

Children will explore the topic through fun, hands-on activities before creating their very own ‘water-cycle in a bag’ to take home.

The event will run at Abingdon School in Park Road in the town on September 16, with sessions at 9.45am to 11am and 11.30am to 12.45pm., for children aged five to nine.
