AN OXFORD professor has called for Britain to take a bolder and more ambitious approach to the £64 billion life sciences research industry.

Professor Sir John Bell, the regius professor of medicine at the university, has led a government review into the industry and said the UK is "uniquely placed" to take advantage of growth in this sector which develops innovative new medical treatments.

The Government should work with charities and industry and develop a collaborative long-term strategy based on what healthcare would look like in the future, he said.
