A CANCER support centre has been given the 'excellent' stamp of approval after receiving the Macmillan Quality Environment Mark.

The cancer support charity has awarded The Hummingbird Cancer Centre in Launton, near Bicester, a plaque for its high standards of care for local people affected by cancer.

The MQEM award, given by Macmillan Cancer Support, specifically assesses how well buildings provide support for people.

The Hummingbird Cancer Support and Therapy Centre achieved the highest possible score bagging 'Excellent' rating.

Mechelle Harris, founder of The Hummingbird Centre, said: “To be awarded this prestigious award by Macmillan Cancer Support proves to us, our guests and professionals, that we are doing it right and for the nomination to have come from Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Cancer Care and Haematology Unit is rewarding in its own right."

The Bicester-based centre is run by a dedicated team of 53 volunteers.

Shelagh Thompson, of Macmillan Cancer Support in Oxfordshire added: “This award reflects the hard work and dedication of the entire Hummingbird Centre team that designed the centre and all the team who work to make it such a welcoming and supportive environment for local patients and their families."
