A RENOWNED college choir will perform a series of classical pieces at a church concert.

Magdalen College Choir will bring ‘Choral Classics: Music for a Summer’s Evening’ to St Mary’s Church in Bampton at 7.30pm on Saturday, July 1.

Under the direction of director of music Mark Williams, the choir will be raising money for the Bampton Church Organ Fund and the Dr Rose Benefaction Fund - the latter of which supports the costs of the choir.

Bampton was home to Bernard Rose who was director of music with the choir for more than 20 years up to 1981.

Mr Williams said: “I am delighted that the choir will have the opportunity to sing in the beautiful church of St Mary’s, which holds a special place in the hearts of many associated with Magdalen College owing to the connection with the Rose family.

“We look forward to presenting a varied programme of choral music including Allegri’s famous Miserere and other works from the choir’s repertoire. It is particularly good to be able to use this event to raise funds for two such excellent causes.”

A spokesman for St Mary’s said the church was was thrilled to be welcoming the choir.

Tickets are available at £10 from Bampton Community Shop. Alternatively, email ejhall014@btinternet.com or choir@magd.ox.ac.uk.

Magdalen Choir is well known in Oxford for its annual performance of the Hymnus Eucharisticus from the top of the college’s tower on May Morning.
