A CARE home will be hosting a dementia awareness event next month.

Wytham House will be running a session to give visitors an in-depth understanding about the psychological needs of a person with dementia.

The care home provides specialist residential, nursing and dementia care for up to 40 people.

Dementia training lead Michele Saunders said: “The events held earlier this year were a big success and we had lots of positive feedback from those who attended.

“The aim of the session is to enable participants to learn about dementia and help them to challenge the way people think, act and talk about the condition.

“We want to actively promote a dementia friendly community through sharing our knowledge and expertise.

“These sessions will increase awareness of dementia which can be useful to all sorts of businesses and organisations, and to help people understand what life is like for those living with the condition.”

According to Alzheimers Society’s report in 2015 one in 14 people aged 65 and over will have dementia.

The event will run on Thursday, July 6 from 11.30am until 1.30pm.
