A SUNGLASS-clad sleuth snapped selfies with eagle-eyed fans as cameras returned to Oxford for the fifth series of ITV’s ‘Endeavour.’

Actor Shaun Evans, who plays the title character Inspector Endeavour Morse, was papped by the TV show’s super fans during a shoot in Merton Street and Merton College on Sunday afternoon.

Dedicated fan Kim Quiddington drove from her home in Bristol to see her favourite detective.

The 55-year-old civil servant said: “It was absolutely amazing, we were there for about two hours, I was so excited.

“We saw them filming near Merton College and we had to walk past them, I was so close to Shaun but I was too tongue-tied to ask him for a picture.

“He was very tiny and he looked very worried but I think that is because they had rehearsed the scene so many times.”

Mrs Quiddington managed to get quite close to the action and even heard some of the dialogue between Mr Evans and his co-stars.

She added: “There was quite a crowd and we all got told to be quiet as they were actually going to try for a take.

“We all went silent and then the Christ Church chimes rang out for quarter past the hour, ruining the take.

“Even the producer burst out laughing.”

The character was created by Oxford author Colin Dexter, who died in March this year, and was played by John Thaw in the original Inspector Morse.

A lot of storylines were wrapped up in the series four finale of Endeavour, with Morse finally promoted to Sergeant and Joan Thursday making amends with her family.

But the latest series is set to promise viewers six episodes instead of the usual four.

Mrs Quiddington said she wanted to come back to the city and get some more behind the scene shots.

She added: “I love Oxford and I come here quite often and it was just a bonus to see the filming

“I’ve seen all the episodes and I love Lewis and the original Inspector Morse, so I am a big fan.

“I wish I had had the courage to ask for a picture of him, but I think this time they really were quite busy filming.”

“Next time I’m here I would love to go to the Morse Bar in the Randolph Hotel, even if I only order a glass of water.”

But Erika Moss from Kidlington managed to do one better with a sleuth selfie.

The ten-year-old Edward Feild Primary School pupil said: “He was really nice and asked if I wanted him to take the picture.

“Mum and dad watch the show and we got the picture to show mum as she was working.

“We watched him filming with a lady near the gates to the park at Merton College.

“We had to keep back because there were lots of cars going past.”

Although she had not seen an episode before her brush with fame on Sunday, Erika says she is looking forward to the new series.

She added: “I will have to start watching it now.”

Series creator Russell Lewis recently spoke to Radio Times and said the next series will be set in 1968 and it is expected to air in 2018.
