A GIRL who lost her dad to cancer has raised more than £1,000 after smashing her fundraising target and lopping her hair into a bob for hospice charity Sobell House.

Anja Seymour, 15, was moved to launch the fundraising challenge after her dad Carl Seymour passed away following a short battle with cancer aged 46.

She aimed to raise £1,000 to be split between Sobell House and the Little Princess Trust which makes wigs for children that have lost their hair following cancer treatment.

She has since raised an impressive £1,118.20 for the two charities, topping her goal after she cut her hair down to size.

Explaining her motivation for the charity drive, Anja, who is from Didcot, said: “Dad was very poorly towards the end of his life and everyone at Sobell House was so good at looking after him and supporting us.

“I am cutting my hair to donate to the Little Princess Trust so that someone going through the heartache of cancer treatment can have a wig.”

Mum Jette Seymour, 47, said she was 'extremely proud' of her daughter for her generosity.

She said: "When she told me it broke my heart because he did love her long hair but I can see why she did it.

"She did it for her dad and its just an amazing thing for someone to have done.

"She was only looking to collect a couple of hundred pounds so it was a lovely surprise to have raised so much.

"I am so proud of her, to give her beautiful hair for her dad and for others."

She went on to praise the staff at Sobell House and called them 'amazing' and doing a vital job to help others cope in the most difficult times.

Spokeswoman at Sobell House Libby Aley said: “I was very impressed by Anja’s commitment to such a hair transformation at the age of just 15 and to turn the loss of her dad in to something positive by supporting not just one but two charities.

"We are very grateful for Anja’s incredible fundraising efforts which will enable us to maintain and grow the level of care we provide to our patients and their families."
