Customers at an Oxford cafe were given a glimpse of things to come on a trial no smoking day today.
Mick's Cafe, a traditional greasy spoon on Cripley Road, off Botley Road, held the trial day to prepare customers for the ban on smoking in public places in England, which begins on Sunday.
But the reaction was mixed. Cafe owner Mick Harris, a non-smoker, said: "Most of my customers are in and out in 15 or 20 minutes, so if you can't go without having a fag for that long, then you're in a bad way."
Chris Parker, 41, from Tetsworth, pictured, said: "I think it's a great idea. As a smoker I've been in pubs and even I've found them too smokey.
"These days it's starting to feel more awkward to smoke inside than it used to, you feel like people are looking at you."
But not everyone was happy about the trial ban.
Ian Douglas, 34, from Oxford, said: "If I had known there was a trial smoking ban here, then I would have taken my business somewhere else.
"In the mornings I like to come here, get breakfast and after I've eaten I like to sit back with a mug of tea, smoke a cigarette and read the paper. Now I can't even do that.
