Youngsters from across Oxfordshire got their skates on at the weekend to put on a spectacular show at Oxford Ice Rink.

The Summer Gala '07 took place over three days at the Oxpens Road rink.

This year the gala had an aeronautical theme, inspired by music, fiction and history. Characters on the ice included Mary Poppins, Peter Pan and Aladdin.

Mark Saunders, centre manager, said: "Everyone worked really hard to make it a success.

"Once again the ice rink has had a good year serving the community and the development of ice sporting excellence has continued through the figure, ice dance and ice hockey clubs."

Fran Davis, from the Ladygrove estate in Didcot, said her daughter Charlotte, 15, was thrilled to appear in the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang sequence.

She added: "This event has been running for the past three years, but this is the first year we have been able to stage shows over three days.

"It was a sell-out on Saturday with more than 500 spectators and about 1,000 people came along over the three days.

"There were 120 skaters in the show. Three-year-old Kiaya Young was our youngest performer and she appeared as a bumblebee."

Not only youngsters took part in the show - Bill Tumbridge, 75, skated in the Come Fly With Me sequence.
