A chance meeting on the way to the cinema led to 67-year romance worthy of any film script.

Arthur West, 86, bumped into his wife-to-be Daisy Golder in 1940 as he was heading to the cinema in Bicester.

When he discovered Daisy was seeing the same film as him, Mr West suggested they go together.

And the couple, of Bucknell Road, Bicester, have just celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Mr West, known as Paddy, was posted to RAF Bicester in 1939 after growing up in Ireland.

During the war he went to India, Burma, Malaysia and Singapore with the RAF.

He spent his career as a chef, first in the airforce and later in the sergeants' mess at Bicester's army depot at Graven Hill.

Mrs West, 84, was born in Yorkshire but moved to Bicester as a toddler.

She worked as a barmaid before joining her husband at the depot where she was a waitress for about 10 years.

They have four daughters, 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a great, great-granddaughter.
