CONSERVATIVE leader David Cameron joined Oxfordshire County Council to launch an action plan to cut the authority's carbon footprint.
County Hall wants to cut is current carbon footprint by 18 per cent in five years.
Calculations revealed the council currently produces 63,000 tonnes of carbon each year - with the main contributors including street lighting and power used in community buildings.
And Witney MP Mr Cameron, who has tried to place the green agenda at the top of Tory policy priorities, was in town to help launch the plan.
Council leader Keith Mitchell said cutting carbon emissions would lead to substantial financial savings.
But Green county councillor Craig Simmons said more action and less words were needed.
He said: "It will take more than a press stunt by Cameron to convince the Greens the Tories have the commitment to deliver substantive CO2 reductions."
