AN impromptu concert was hosted outside the Palace of Westminster as part of an Oxfordshire MP’s campaign to support Syrians.

Banbury MP Victoria Prentis was joined by her colleagues Nicola Blackwood MP, Fiona MacTaggart MP and Attorney General Robert Buckland MP at the event on Tuesday.

The pop-up event aimed to raise awareness of Giving Tuesday, a global day which encourages people to ‘do good stuff’ for charity by giving time and money to a worthy cause.

It was also part of Mrs Prentis’s Singing for Syrians fundraising scheme.

She said: “I thought it would be a lot of fun to try to get some of my Parliamentary colleagues to come along and sing outside Westminster. “It was all rather last minute, but it just shows how easy it is to organise a Singing for Syrians event.

“I was really grateful to all my colleagues and the school children who sang their hearts out.”

Passers by stopped to join in carols with the MPs, many of whom will be joining the choir for the main Singing for Syrians event at St Margaret’s Church in Westminster on Tuesday, December 13.

The event will be attended by Robert Peston and author Michael Morpurgo.
