COMMUNITY organisations in Oxfordshire are among those benefiting from the latest round of Big Lottery grants.

There are 51 projects across the South East which have been given grants of £1.3m

The Ley Community Drug Services at Yarntonm which runs recovery programmes for drug addicts, has been awarded £9,885.

Grants organisers were told: "The organisation will use the funding to develop healthy eating and exercise sessions for residents who are admitted to their centre with drug and alcohol addiction.

"This will improve beneficiaries eating habits, encourage them to become more active and support their overall recovery."

Oxford Wood Recycling's Furniture Lab in Suffolk Way, Abingdon, has been awarded £8,534 for a new mezzanine floor.

And at the Barracks Lane Community Garden in East Oxford a grant of £9,200 has been given for new equipment.

In Launton near Bicester the village primary school has got a grant of £10,000 for a playground trail.

The application said the funding would be used to develop the school playground to include a trail and equipment to boost physical development.

It added; "This will provide a play area for school children to use as well as increase participation from local community groups."

Wolvercote Young People's Club in Oxford got £10,000 for an activities programme for young people and Deddington Parish Council's Windmill Centre near Banbury got the same amount for an outdoor fitness centre.
