Didcot's Bake Off queen Christine Wallace said she was saddened by the news that the popular BBC TV show was moving to Channel 4.

Last night Channel 4 announced that it had won the rights to broadcast Britain's most popular TV series in a three-year deal.

The baking contest hosted by Mary Berry, Paul Hollywood, Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc has proved an unbeatable recipe with episodes regularly bringing in 10 million viewers.

"I don't think it will ever be the same again," said Mrs Wallace, who was a contestant in 2013.

"I would like to think that The Great British Bake Off will return to the BBC at some point but I'm not sure that will happen - money talks.

"Some people say they are going to boycott the programme once it moves but that's perhaps going too far."

Mrs Wallace was a contestant in 2013 and said she had fond memories of reaching the quarter-finals.

Since then she has produced a cook book, given a series of talks and this weekend she will give food demonstrations at Wallingford Food Festival in Crowmarsh Gifford.

She added: "I had a great time on Bake Off.

"Mel and Sue's double entendres relax the contestants and Mary Berry is a true lady who always finds something nice to say to contestants.

"I remember making cherry, chocolate and amaretto petit fours, and brandy snap cones filled with lemon nuts and chocolate which Paul Hollywood said he would quite happily serve in a five-star hotel but sadly his comment was edited out.

"On one episode I tried to make my grandmother's apple and plum pie recipe but I ran out of time and it had a soggy bottom and soggy top but fortunately my showstopper filo pastry came out okay and I got through to the next round."

Mrs Wallace lives with husband Rob in Didcot.

He runs a laser engraving company in Moulsford and makes cake stands for Mrs Wallace in his spare time.

The Bake Off celebrity said she planned next month to cook for Prince Andrew when he visits Harwell Oxford.

"I haven't completed the menu but I expect it will include duck as that's one of his favourites," she added.

Mrs Wallace is also organising the Didcot Food Festival, which will run at the Cornerstone Arts Centre from November 25-27.
