COMMUNITY groups could benefit from a cash boost worth tens of thousands of pounds.

Grants could offer a lifeline for struggling organisations in South Oxfordshire, who can now bid to get their claws into a £1.6m council kitty.

The district council will award the money in chunks ranging from £10,000-£100,000 to help pay for salaries, rent, marketing and new ventures over the next four years.

Elizabeth Gillespie, the South Oxfordshire District Council's cabinet member for grants, said: "A thriving voluntary sector is of paramount importance to us.

"We know that there are lots of groups throughout South Oxfordshire whose works benefit the community. However it’s not always easy to meet running costs to pay for services or activities."

Hopefuls will qualify for application if they are not-for-profit and have a project in mind that will benefit residents, that they plan to complete over the next four years.

The council hopes the funding will allow groups to invest in and nurture the district.

Anyone interested in the revenue grants must apply by Thursday, September 15 by contacting the council on 01235 422405 or emailing grants@southandvale.gov.uk.

A workshop will be held detailing more information about the grant scheme, taking place at Hampden House in Chalgrove on Thursday, September 8.

Council officers will impart tips on the application process and answer participants' questions.

Anyone who wants to book a place for the workshop can email corporate.strategy@southandvale.gov.uk by Friday.
