Wilderness may have a reputation as one of the UK's more glamorous music festivals, but new figures reveal it is one of the most crime-ridden.

Thames Valley Police statistics revealed 39 people were victims of theft at the festival in 2015.

The figures represent a one in 769 chance of being a victim, the third highest after Wireless and South West Four festivals.

More than 30,000 revellers attend Wilderness each year, paying up to £1,500 for accommodation in tepees.

This year's event ran from August 3 to August 6 and featured acts including Robert Plant and The Flaming Lips.

By contrast music lovers were much less likely to suffer a theft at Download festival, where the chance of being a victim of crime was just one in 25,000.

Policy Expert head of operations Adam Powell said: "It's essential to remember to be vigilant, especially in large crowds.

"Finally, before you pack up your tent, check the small print in your home insurance policy and check whether it includes away from home cover.

"And if you do fall victim, tell the police as soon as possible- a crime number is essential to making a claim."
