IN WHAT could be the pub crawl to end all pub crawls, one Woodstock couple has vowed to visit every Red Lion in the UK.

Kayleigh Snell, 28, and Paul Tyack, 29 have so far enjoyed discovering about 250 of the popularly-named pubs so far, but still have more than 400 to go.

But as well as enjoying a drink in the pubs, they are also looking to raise cash for Pulmonary Hypertension UK, a lung disease that Paul's five-year-old niece Emily suffers from.

Miss Snell said: "We read about someone attempting this and Paul said that would be fun to do.

"I got a bit carried away and booked all these weekends away so we could do it."

The pair, who live in New Road, have even started up their own Facebook page so fans can keep track of how many pubs they have visited.

Miss Snell, a dental worker, said: "The first Red Lion we went to was in Northmoor. It was coincidental. We were driving to Paul's office and there was traffic so we took the long way back and found the pub.

"My favourite local one is in Old Marston but overall was one up north in Cheshire.

"It's the ones that are just a little bit different that are best. You get chain ones which are nice enough but they are all the same.

"We try and visit about eight in one day. One of us will have a half pint and the other will have an orange juice, as one of us will be driving. We don't go too mad."

Miss Snell and Mr Tyack, who have been together for four years, are planning to hit their 300th Red Lion at the end of September.

She added: "Pubs are closing all the time so its hard to know when it will end.

"We have to go up to Scotland as well now, so we've booked a trip for next May. There are only 10 up there but they're so scattered. We hope to finish the whole thing by the end of next year."

The furthest Red Lion from their home is in Inverness, but Miss Snell and Mr Tyack, a plumber, are not fazed by all the travelling.

Miss Snell added: "It's nice because we get to see a lot of the country, so we are getting some benefits.

"We went to the Peak District recently and neither of us had been there before. It was lovely. We definitely said we would go back."

The couple originally wanted to raise £1 for each of the 650 pubs they visited, but have already smashed their target with a total of about £800.
