MEMBERS of the Bracketts, one of the oldest families in Blackbird Leys, are gearing up to cast their vote at the community centre – but not all are voting the same way.

Father-of-two and endurance athlete Paul Brackett, 57, said he had no hesitation in voting Remain, even though he knew others might not.

He said: “We are part of Europe and we are better off staying together and trading with Europe.

“In my early days in Blackbird Leys everyone was poor but we have enough of everything here now.

“Other people have escaped from war zones. Let’s give them a home and take our fair share. This is a wealthy country and we have a glut of everything.”

But he added: “I will vote to stay – if I bother voting. I’m not enthused to vote because my wife has a different opinion and if we both vote we just cancel each other out.”

Jamie Brackett, 38, who lives in Abingdon Road and will move back to the estate soon, said on the eve of the vote that he still had research to do. He said: “I will be voting but I haven’t had much thought. I feel we should be part of the EU but there are pros and cons, especially with immigrants coming in.”
