A HUGE fireball shot into the sky after a food waste plant containing 450 cubic metres of methane gas was struck by lightning yesterday.
Agrivert Food Waste Plant in Benson, near Wallingford was struck by the bolt of lightning at about 5pm and seven fire engines raced to the scene for 5.15pm.
A nearby resident captured a video of the incredible flames leaping into the sky, as the methane gas in the plant intensified the fire.
Nobody was hurt in the incident, and crews battled the flames for hours, only leaving gone 11pm.
