A LIMITED service will run to and from London Paddington today after an empty train derailed outside the station yesterday evening.

The derailing led to damage in signalling and the overhead wires.

Some lines are now open but a limited service will run to and from London Paddington until the end of service today.

The following alterations will apply:

  • No Heathrow Connect service will run.
  • Heathrow Express service will run every 30 minutes. Pre-booked Heathrow Connect tickets will be accepted on these services.
  • Services between London Paddington and Greenford will run between West Ealing and Greenford.
  • Services between London Paddington and Bedwyn will now start / terminate at Reading.
  • Services from London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads at 30 minutes past the hour will not run.
  • Services from Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington on the hour will not run Services from London Paddington to Cardiff Central at 15 minutes past the hour will not run.
  • Services from Cardiff Central to London Paddington at 55 minutes past the hour will not run.
  • Services between London Paddington and Cheltenham Spa will not run.

Alternative travel options

  • Great Western Railway passengers may use:
  • Tickets dated 16 June
  • Arriva Trains Wales services between Hereford and Newport
  • CrossCountry services between Banbury and Basingstoke
  • Chiltern Railways between London Marylebone and Oxford Parkway / Banbury
  • First buses on routes: 1B, 58, 76, 71, 77, 75, X74
  • South West Trains on any reasonable route
  • Virgin Trains between London Euston and Birmingham New Street
  • London Underground on any reasonable route London
  • Buses on route 140 between Hayes & Harlington and Heathrow (Central Bus Station)
  • London Midland services between Hereford / Worcester / London Euston and Birmingham New Street.

Passengers looking to travel on South West Trains services between Reading and London Waterloo should travel via Guildford or Basingstoke if possible. The Royal Ascot races are taking place today, and services are expected to be very busy.
