THE PARENTS of the alleged terrorist dubbed Jihadi Jack, who is believed to have been radicalised and fighting for ISIS, have been remanded in custody after denying funding terrorist activities in Syria.

John Letts and Sally Lane appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court today accused of sending their 20-year-old son Jack £1,723 for terrorism purposes.

The court heard Jack had converted to Islam aged 16 and travelled to Jordan in May 2014 before eventually ending up in Syria where he is believed to have joined the so-called Islamic State.

Letts and Lane are accused of sending their son cash on multiple occasions between September last year and January despite being warned by police Jack was being investigated on suspicion of terrorism.

Prosecutor Kathryn Selby told the court the couple were up for very serious offences.

She added: "This case involved repeated sending or attempts to send money to both Ms Lane and Mr Letts' son in Raqqa in Syria which is under Daesh control.

"Their son is believed to be at the very least linked to terrorism."

Letts, 55, and 54-year-old Lane, both of Chilswell Road, Oxford, spoke only to confirm their names, dates of birth and addresses.

The pair denied three counts of entering into or becoming concerned in an arrangement to make available money, knowing or having reasonable cause to suspect that it may be used for a terrorist purpose.

Lane also denied a further two counts of attempting to provide money, knowing or having reasonable cause to suspect that it may be used for a terrorist purpose.

It was reported by national newspapers that Jack travelled to Syria in September 2014 to join the Islamic State group but his parents strongly denied this in an interview with the Oxford Mail in January.

They said he converted to Islam but was not an extremist and was believed to be carrying out humanitarian work.

The couple were remanded in custody and will appear at the Old Bailey on Thursday, June 23.
