A blast of Arctic air has brought snow flurries to Oxfordshire today with the white stuff spotted in Oxford, Chipping Norton and Eynsham.

In many parts of the country temperatures are not getting above 7C and the cold spell is set to continue until Friday, according to Met Office forecaster Lindsay Mears.

She said temperatures overnight fell to -1C at South Newington near Banbury, one of the 10 coldest locations across the UK.

The coldest was Powys, Wales where temperatures of -3.4C were recorded and some drivers in Oxfordshire needed to scrape ice off their windscreens this morning.

Ms Mears added: "The Arctic air moving down from Scotland has led to some snow flurries but these wintry showers are not sticking around for long.

"The cold weather is expected to remain for the rest of the week with temperatures improving on Friday as milder conditions come in from the Atlantic."
