WE travel to Morecambe today following a somewhat frustrating week.

It was disappointing to have the game against Exeter called off while we were in the midst of the pre-match preparations.

And it is especially unfortunate the fixture will now be added to an already busy period of games with a lot of Tuesday night matches in quick succession.

We took the opportunity on Saturday to discuss, with the team, the logistics of the game at Wembley so we can draw a line under that for now.

It was good to get that conversation out of the way to allow us to concentrate on the league.

I am now banning the ‘W’ word until the week of April 3.

The first 20 minutes of Tuesday night’s game with Mansfield was the poorest start we have made all season.

And we were punished for it by conceding midway through the half.

I felt we grew into the game and did well for the remainder of the first 45 minutes.

Our first goal came from great link-up play between Alex MacDonald and Jonjoe Kenny, with Jonjoe showing great composure to pick out Danny Hylton at the far post.

To concede the goal in the final minutes, allowing them to equalise, meant it felt as though we had lost the game.

This is something we have to be really mindful of in our bid for promotion.

Of the ten games we have drawn so far this season at least eight of them have felt like losses.

This is because we dominated and have come away feeling unlucky not to have taken three points.

We need to ensure we only draw in games where we have been second best and still managed to achieve a point, rather than us controlling a game to then lose out on points.

The difference between a top-three or top-seven position may come down to drawing games we should have won, and we don’t want to be rueing those lost points come the end of the season.

I thought Jonjoe was great on the night and really deserved to be recognised as our man-of-the-match.

There was a bit of pressure on him coming in as a replacement for George Baldock, who was both influential on the pitch and popular with the fans.

But he has taken to it with incredible maturity and instantly shown the potential he has.

It was good to see Danny Hylton back in the side and getting two goals.

Last season Danny’s name was the first on the teamsheet, but he realises with the strengthening we have done he has to put in big performances.

He has definitely put forward a good argument for his place in the team and that is exactly the competitiveness we’re looking for.

I expect Morecambe to be something of a wounded animal today.

Especially having lost their last few games, particularly their defeat to Mansfield Town last week in which they missed two penalties.

We have done well on the road this season with our away record as good as anybody’s in the league.

If we perform the way we did in the second half of Tuesday’s game, regardless of the final few minutes, we stand a good chance of taking the three points this afternoon.
