Sir – You may perhaps have misquoted councillor Hollingsworth, as saying that the limit on the height of buildings may be amended, since the Design Review Panel had ‘raised concerns that if everything just goes up to 18.2m, instead of having the ‘Dreaming Spires’ you get quite a flat horizon instead’ (Report, January 21).
That is surely just the point of this policy, to leave the ‘Dreaming Spires’ to dominate the skyline.
It is clear that the recently-installed Design Review Panel is having some effect. I am told that it does good work in improving the quality of designs submitted to it.
However, it is not clear why its recommendations have to be kept secret. Why can they not be put on the planning website, along with other comments?
