Oxford West and Abingdon MP Nicola Blackwood will tonight joins MPs at a Singing for Syrians carol concert.

Ms Blackwood will sing a solo of Silent Night at the concert in Westminster.

A series of carol concerts have been arranged across the country to raise money for the Hands Up Foundation and Christian Aid, who are both currently involved in aid relief in Syria The Hands Up Foundation funds the salaries of medical teams in Aleppo.

Every penny raised will receive match funding from the Department for International Development.

The concert is taking place in St Margaret’s Church, Westminster from 6pm to 7pm.

Romilly Weeks, Sir Timothy Ackroyd and Peter Snow will be giving readings, and as well as Ms Blackwood’s solo performance there will be performances from Will Quince MP, Bernard Jenkin MP, Andrea Jenkyns MP and Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP.

Ms Blackwood said: "Singing for Syrians is a fantastic way to raise money for the most desperate people who remain in the region.

"Having visited Syrian refugee camps in Lebanon myself in 2013, I know only too well the horrific conditions people from the region are fleeing and I strongly believe we must do all we can to help.

"I am rather nervous about the performance as I haven't sung in public for quite a few years but this is a cause I simply could not say no to.

"Hopefully the audience will remember it's Christmas and be forgiving!"

Ms Blackwood went on the radio to sing Cole Porter's Every Time We Say Goodbye, shortly after she was first elected in 2010.
