CONFUSION erupted in Oxford yesterday as a volcano appeared in the middle of the city.

The model volcano was delivered on the back of a lorry and positioned on the lawn in front of the Oxford University Museum of Natural History. At five metres in diameter it will sit outside the museum for a range of activities and visits from local schools.

On Friday, October 30, at 6pm an eruption will be staged.

It is part of a UK tour for the London Volcano which was built in 2014 and housed at the Natural History Museum in London.

The project was a collaborative effort between scientists based at Oxford University’s Department of Earth Sciences, the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia, and the University of the West Indies Seismic Research Centre.

The three metre high model will sit outside the museum in Parks Road until the end of the month.
