A HEADINGTON woman has been left devastated by the theft of an antique engagement ring that had been in her family for more than 60 years.

Victoria O’Sullivan has had an empty feeling inside since thieves made off with the one memento left to her by her grandmother, who passed away six years ago.

Raiders got into the rented house in Headley Way on Monday before making off with the ring and other sentimental jewellery.

Ms O’Sullivan, 38, said: “My fiance got in from work and the door was wide open – all the cupboards were open in the kitchen and the bedroom. They had looked everywhere but bypassed the computers, tablets or phones and went straight for my jewellery.

“They stole a camera and a few other bits, but the only thing I care about is the ring.

“My grandfather gave it to my grandmother in 1950. It was her engagement ring. I have worn it every day but had taken it off a couple of weeks ago to have it cleaned. It is like they knew.

“It is such a beautiful ring. I just feel so empty as that was all I had left of my grandmother. Everyone in the family is upset because I am so upset.”

Miss O’Sullivan said the theft happened between 12.30pm and 5.30pm and there was no forced entry.

Thames Valley Police and a forensics team were called to the property and the locks have now been changed.

Miss O’Sullivan added: “The police have been brilliant. They were straight round and had a forensics team in to do fingerprints. They said there had been a spate of burglaries targeting jewellery lately in Headington.

“If somebody were to give it back it would honestly mean the world to me. The thought that I will never have it again is just so upsetting.”

Thames Valley Police said last night they are still investigating the incident. Anyone with information should contact officers on 101.
