AN 18-year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital after a hit-and-run while using a pelican crossing in Blackbird Leys.

The teen pedestrian was in a collision with a light-coloured car as he used the crossing in Blackbird Leys Road, between Balfour Road and Sandy Lane West, at about 4pm yesterday.

Thames Valley Police said following the collision, the car stopped a short distance along the road momentarily but was then drove off, continuing towards Cowley.

It is believed the car may have sustained damage to the bonnet and windscreen.

The man was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital with serious head and limb injuries. His condition is described as serious but stable.

Senior Investigating Officer, Sgt Sharon Scarffe of the Roads Policing Unit based at Abingdon, said: “I would appeal to anyone who saw the vehicle or pedestrian prior to the collision, or the collision itself to contact police via 101.

“We believe the vehicle sustained some visible damage to the bonnet and windscreen so I would appeal to anyone who has seen a light coloured car with similar damage after 4pm yesterday to contact police.
