SCALED-back plans for a temporary building at Oxford Station have been approved.

Network Rail had resubmitted the scheme for a two-storey temporary staff accommodation block after concerns about overshadowing were raised by residents living to the east in Staple Close.

Oxford City Council deferred an initial application and in response the firm moved the building slightly south and reduced the floor space of the first floor so that the shadow it cast was smaller.

The changes were "cautiously welcomed" by residents, who spoke in support of the application at a meeting of the council's west area planning committee tonight.

The scheme is part of work to increase capacity and create an additional platform for new passenger services, set to be run by Chiltern Railways to London Marylebone.

It was passed unanimously by councillors.
