STRIKES affecting rail travel over the August Bank Holiday weekend are still set to go ahead, according to the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union.

Talks held between First Great Western and the RMT held today were inconclusive, according to spokesman Geoff Martin.

He said: “We held talks today and further talks are planned, but there is no settlement yet and no outcome reached.”

Members including drivers and guards at First Great Western will walk out for 24 hours on Sunday, August 23, and for 72 hours from Saturday, August 29 to midnight on Bank Holiday Monday.

First Great Western refused to comment.
