The RMT union will decide on future train strike dates after rejecting a revised offer from First Great Western.

The rail operator tabled an improved offer on Tuesday but the rail workers’ union said it fell “well short” of what is required.

The dispute concerns the introduction of a new fleet of Hitachi inter-city trains and what it will mean for jobs, safety and services.

First Great Western said it had made a “substantially revised offer”.

RMT general-secretary Mick Cash said: “As a result we will now be meeting with our sister unions to discuss the campaign strategy and RMT’s executive will be deciding on future strike dates next week.”
