BROADCASTER Bill Heine once said Kennington could claim to be the most generous village in England.

So imagine how appalled I feel about the image of my village being promoted in the national press regarding the reaction to a plan for troubled families to be sent for breaks here from Hackney.

Even the ‘i’ version of The Independent headlined: ‘Villagers tell council: keep your townies off our manor’.

But it does not reflect the attitude of the majority of the 4,000 villagers. Twenty-five villagers who oppose the holiday retreat turned up at the parish council and the rest of us, who mostly have no objection to the proposal, failed to attend.

I have posted my reply giving a truer picture of our village on my website. http://sylviavetta.co.uk.

My latest book I Love You All tells the story of Kennington Choir which has raised over £432,000 for good causes.

That and this vimeo clip with Peggy Seeger gives a truer picture of Kennington http://vimeo.com/philiphind/koa
