NEARLY a century after it was built and after thousands of miles, Jonathan Sage brought his 1935 supercharged MG PB home this weekend.

Mr Sage took the car, which he inherited from his late father, to show off at the 17th annual MGs in the Park event at Cotswold Wildlife Park on Sunday.

But on the way to West Oxfordshire from his home in Henley, Mr Sage made sure to drive through Abingdon, where the car was built before the Second World War.

The annual MGs in the Park, organised by the Oxfordshire branch of the MG owners’ club, attracts hundreds of enthusiasts every year.

On Sunday, owners and admirers enjoyed glorious sunshine all day and jostled in friendly competition in the Pride of Ownership contest.

Mr Sage said: “The weather was fantastic, it was a great day.

“The great thing about MGs is that some of the early ones are quite special and quite expensive. We’re talking £60,000 to £70,000, but you also have the boy racers there with their souped-up ZRs.

“There was a huge mixture of people there, and that is the great appeal, it’s not some elite club event.”

Entry was free for MG drivers, and their passengers paid a discounted price.
